Three toggles, one page
Everything is on your account page. There is no separate preference centre and no confirm button - each toggle saves the moment you flip it.
| Setting | What it controls |
|---|---|
| Marketing & Promotions | Promotional emails, bonus alerts and special offer notifications. This is the only one that affects your inbox. |
| Public Profile | Whether other members see your username or "Shark user" on leaderboards and feeds. Nothing to do with email. |
| Activity Bar | Whether the live earnings ticker appears on your own screen. A display preference, not a privacy or email one. |
Two of these get switched off by mistake. People looking to stop emails sometimes turn off Activity Bar, which only hides the ticker from themselves, or Public Profile, which changes what others see. If your goal is a quieter inbox, Marketing & Promotions is the one. If it is privacy, see who can see your profile information.
What you give up by switching marketing off
It is a genuine trade-off rather than a formality. Marketing emails are one of the places new reward codes are announced, and because codes expire when their use limit runs out rather than on a date, arriving late usually means arriving too late.
If you want the codes without the inbox, the Discord server is the better channel - codes are usually posted there first, and you control the notifications per channel.
Emails that always arrive
Switching off marketing does not silence everything, and it should not. These are transactional messages tied to something happening on your account, and there is no opt-out for them:
- Email address verification when you register
- Password reset links you requested
- The confirmation code when you change your email address
- A notification to your old address telling you the email was changed
- Account-standing and security notices, including the 30-day warning before an inactive account is closed
That last one is the reason to keep the address working even if you want no marketing at all. If the warning cannot reach you, the first you would know is finding the account gone.
Changing your email address
The change is confirmed with a code rather than a link, and the process is deliberately narrow:
- Enter the new address on your account page.
- A code is emailed to it. The code is valid for 15 minutes.
- Enter the code. You get three attempts before it is invalidated and you have to start again.
- Your old address receives a notification that the change happened.
If you get that notification and did not request it, act immediately. Somebody has access to your account. Change your password, then secure the email account itself, then contact support - see the account security tips for why that order matters.
If emails are not arriving at all
- Check spam and promotions folders, and add the sender to your contacts.
- Confirm the address on your account page is the current one and spelled correctly.
- Free forwarding addresses and disposable mailboxes silently drop mail more often than people expect. A normal provider is worth using for an account holding money.
If a verification or reset email genuinely never arrives after checking all three, open a support ticket - and note that you cannot resolve it by creating a second account, which would break the one account per person rule.
For what we do with your address and how long it is kept, see how your data is protected. Withdrawing marketing consent is also a right you can exercise at any time under GDPR, and the toggle is the fastest way to do it.
