Where your name actually appears
Shark Earnings has a public side - leaderboards, a live activity feed, offer reviews - and your account feeds into it by default. Before deciding whether to change anything, it helps to know the specific places your username can show up:
- Leaderboards - the daily, weekly and monthly earnings boards, with your username, avatar and the total you earned in that period.
- The live activity feed - the ticker of recent earnings across the site, showing a username and the amount credited.
- Offer reviews - if you rate an offer, your username is attached to the review.
- Weekly lottery winners - the published winners list after each Sunday draw.
- The Discord activity feed - milestone and payout announcements in our community server.
What the Public Profile toggle does
Open your account page and switch Public Profile off. From that moment your username is replaced with the generic label "Shark user" in every one of the places listed above. Your avatar goes with it.
Nothing about how you earn changes. You still appear on leaderboards and still win prizes - you simply appear anonymously, and nobody browsing the site can connect an entry back to you.
Even public profiles are partly masked. In the Discord activity feed, usernames are shortened to their first and last character with the middle replaced by asterisks, whether your profile is public or not. The full name is never posted to an external platform.
What is never public, either way
Some data is not exposed by any setting, because it is never sent to the public side of the site in the first place:
- Your email address
- Your current balance
- Your payout details - PayPal address, wallet address, gift card codes
- Your IP address, device information and verification status
- Which specific offers you have completed, beyond what appears momentarily in the live feed
One honest caveat. Earnings totals are not secret. That is the whole point of a leaderboard - a public profile means the amount you earned in a given period is visible next to your name. If that is what you want to keep private, the Public Profile toggle is the setting you need.
The two settings people mistake for privacy settings
There are three toggles on the account page and only one of them is about privacy. The other two are frequently switched off by mistake:

If your goal is to disappear from public view, the Activity Bar toggle will not do it. Switch off Public Profile instead - and if you want a quieter interface as well, you can switch off both.
Changing the setting
- Go to your account page.
- Find the toggle labelled Public Profile.
- Switch it off.
The change saves immediately - there is no confirm button - and applies to everything rendered from that point on. You can switch it back on at any time, as often as you like.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does going private remove me from leaderboards?
No. You keep your place and any prize attached to it. Only the name and avatar shown are replaced with "Shark user".
Does it hide entries I posted before switching?
Yes. The name is resolved at the moment a page is rendered, not stored with the entry, so older reviews and feed items are anonymised too.
Can other members see my email or how much I have withdrawn?
