Who can take part
To earn referral commission your account must meet all of the following:
- Active and in good standing, with email verification completed
- At least 16 years old, or the minimum age in your region if it is higher
- No recent Terms of Service violations
- Genuine earning activity of your own on the account
That last point is the one people miss. A brand new account that has never completed an offer and exists purely to collect referrals does not qualify as a referrer.
When a referral actually counts
Three conditions have to be met before a referral generates anything for you:
- They registered through your link, or entered your code during registration.
- They are a genuinely new user - not an existing member making a second account.
- They have completed at least one task. Registration alone qualifies nobody.
Attribution cannot be fixed afterwards. The relationship is set permanently when the account is created. A code typed during signup counts; a code mentioned a week later does not. There is no way to attach an existing account to a referrer, so it is worth making sure people use the link the first time - see the referral tools.
What you get paid, and when
Commission is credited to your balance once the underlying task is fully verified and processed - not at the moment your referral sees their reward. You earn on every task they complete, for as long as they keep earning, at a rate between 10% and 30% depending on your tier. The full breakdown of what does and does not generate commission is in this article.
What gets you removed
The prohibited activities fall into three groups. All of them are monitored automatically, and all of them carry commission forfeiture as a possible outcome.
| Category | Prohibited |
|---|---|
| Account fraud | Fake accounts and self-referrals, using a family member's details without their consent, running multiple accounts from one device without disclosing it, automated signup generation, and buying referral traffic from questionable sources. |
| Marketing violations | Spam and unsolicited messages, false claims about earning potential, impersonating Shark Earnings staff, posting links on inappropriate platforms, and misleading descriptions of the service. |
| Technical circumvention | Manipulating referral tracking, using VPNs to fake diversity among signups, exploiting vulnerabilities, and click farms or other artificial traffic. |
The most common single violation is the simplest: referring yourself through a second account. It is also the easiest to detect, because device fingerprinting and IP analysis are exactly what the one account per person policy runs on.
Overpromising counts as a violation. "Earn $100 a day" style claims are prohibited even when made with good intentions. Aside from the rule, they produce referrals who quit within a week, which earns you nothing - see what realistic earnings look like.
What monitoring looks for
Automated systems watch for patterns rather than individual signups: unusual registration bursts, several accounts from similar IP addresses, accounts created and then immediately going dormant, and coordinated activity that suggests an artificial network.
Normal promotion does not produce these patterns. A steady trickle of referrals from a video or a community, who then go on to earn, looks nothing like a farm.
Enforcement, in four stages
- Warning - an educational notice, with your account placed under monitoring.
- Temporary suspension - 30 days out of the programme, with commission held during that time.
- Permanent ban - removal from the programme and forfeiture of accumulated commission.
- Account termination - a full platform ban, for severe violations.
Participation can also be ended for repeated violations of platform policy generally, or for failing to keep the account active. See what a fraud ban involves.
Two things worth knowing
- Commission is taxable income. Reporting it where you live is your responsibility, not ours. See tax implications of online earnings.
- Your referrals' privacy is protected from you. You receive aggregated performance figures only. Their personal information is never shared with you, and they can request their own data or opt out of referral tracking at any time under the data protection rules.
Rates and terms can be changed with reasonable advance notice. The authoritative document is the Affiliate Programme Policy; this article summarises it. For the mechanics of getting started, see how the referral programme works.
